Four confirmed dead, others injured following a road accident in Ogun

Four individuals have been confirmed deceased, with several others sustaining injuries in a tragic accident that took place in the Enugada area of Lafenwa, Abeokuta, Ogun State.

    The incident involved a truck bearing the registration number AAA 86 XX, which collided with two commercial motorcycles identified as DE 968 V and AAB 387 VP, as well as a Honda CRV with the plate EKY 857 GU, around 8:30 PM on Thursday evening.

    Reports indicate that both the truck driver and the motor boy were missing by the time the vehicle came to a halt.

    Personnel from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) were present at the scene, assisting in the evacuation of victims, clearing debris, and managing traffic flow.

    Babatunde Akinbiyi, the TRACE Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and attributed the cause to brake failure as the truck was descending from Itoku towards Enugada, Lafenwa.

    He said: “According to eyewitness account, the truck developed a brake failure (mechanical) while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, and rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the 2 motorcyclists and the two passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV car was injured.

    “Initially, six were presumed dead, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian but they were revived due to the efforts of the 1st responders and members of the public who gathered at the scene of the crash.”

    Akinbiyi mentioned that the bodies of the deceased and the injured were taken to a hospital, the name of which will be disclosed later.

    He urged drivers to regularly maintain their vehicles and ensure that all critical mechanical systems are functioning properly before embarking on any journey.
