American rapper Lil Wayne expressed that not being chosen as the headliner for the 2025 Super Bowl halftime show was a significant emotional blow for him.
Reports indicate that Nicki Minaj and several fans have voiced their discontent with Jay-Z, who oversaw the selection process, for opting for Kendrick Lamar over Wayne.
In a video message that gained widespread attention on Friday, Lil Wayne acknowledged that he holds himself accountable for not being mentally ready for such a setback.
He emphasized that headlining the 2025 Super Bowl in his hometown of New Orleans would have been a tremendous honor.
Despite the disappointment, Wayne mentioned that he is working on moving forward.
“That hurt a lot. I blame myself for not being mentally prepared for a letdown. I thought there was nothing better than that stage in my city… It broke me and I’m just trying to put me back together,” he said.
