American singer Mariah Carey has announced the passing of her mother, Patricia, and her sister, Alison, both of whom died on the same day last weekend.
The acclaimed Grammy-winning artist made this revelation in a statement issued on Monday, although she did not disclose the causes of death for either individual or specify the exact date of their passing.
“My heart is shattered by the loss of my mother this past weekend. Tragically, my sister also lost her life on the same day. I feel fortunate to have spent the final week with my mother before her departure,” Carey expressed.
Prior to her death, Patricia Carey, a distinguished opera singer, had collaborated with her daughter.
Mariah Carey has previously indicated that her mother served as a significant influence on her musical journey.
Carey had a strained relationship with her sister, Alison.
As reported by Variety, Carey mentioned in her memoir that she found it “emotionally and physically safer” to maintain no contact with her sister Alison and her brother Morgan.
It is worth noting that Carey’s father, Alfred Roy Carey, succumbed to cancer in 2002.
