Suspended Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has issued a public apology to the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners of Nigeria (TAMPAN) regarding her previous criticisms.

TAMPAN serves as the governing body for Yoruba actors and filmmakers in Nigeria.

This apology comes three years after her suspension, which was a result of her online dispute with actor Lege Maimi concerning the alleged child abuse case involving Baba Ijesha.

Nkechi Blessing’s collaboration with her colleague Iyabo Ojo in campaigning against Baba Ijesha attracted negative reactions from certain TAMPAN members, including Yomi Fabiyi and Lege Maimi.

In response to the ensuing public controversy, veteran actor Jide Kosoko prohibited directors from collaborating with Iyabo Ojo and Blessing, which led her to ridicule the association’s decision.

However, during the 2024 Celebrities Entertainment Awards held in Canada on Sunday, Nkechi Blessing tearfully apologized to TAMPAN.

In a widely circulated video on social media, she expressed, “I am deeply sorry for my actions. I sincerely beg for forgiveness as I miss the industry. You all have contributed to my success. I am celebrated globally because of you. Please accept my apologies.”

In reaction, TAMPAN’s president, Mr. Latin, acknowledged her apology, fostering a sense of closure to the matter, while actor Odunlade Adekola commended her for the public apology.

It is worth noting that Baba Ijesha was sentenced to prison by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Ikeja Special Offences Court in July 2022, following over a year of legal proceedings.
